Quayside, Cambridge

The challenge:

This riverside timber walkway had been the scene of a number of slips since it's installation and Cambridge City Council were seeking a robust anti-slip coating that would complement the aesthetics of the existing deck. A key challenge on this project was the need to avoid polluting the watercourse, situated directly below the walkway.  

The solution:

We recommended a hand-applied polyaspartic Prokol system. With careful masking and preparation, the solution was applied in sections. This allowed partial pedestrian access to the walkway and safeguarding of the watercourse at all times. The resulting finish successfully created a safer walkway for pedestrian traffic, whilst maintaining the integrity of the walkway design.

 

Southend Pier Royal Pavilion

The challenge:

This award-winning building was designed to breathe new life into Southend, bringing culture and community together. Situated on the end of Southend Pier, the 350sqm multi-faceted building would be subjected to constant wet and windy conditions. Working alongside Kier, ESW was required to spray-coat the entire exterior of the building, which was constructed offsite at Tilbury Docks and manoeuvred into place.

The solution:

We chose Prokol Pure Polyurea as the ultimate durable coating, engineered to withstand any weather conditions for decades to come. Each element of the building was prepared, primed and sprayed with the utmost attention to detail. The seamless coating not only provides the highest possible levels of protection, but also enhances the architectural individuality of this structure.

 

Lewisham Park Towers

The challenge:

Built several decades ago, these social housing blocks were showing signs of deterioration, with water ingress appearing on the building elevations. Balconies were worn and the concrete staircases were absorbent and difficult to maintain. Painting these areas was rejected as a solution, due to the downtime required which was unsuitable for main staircases operating as fire escapes. The client was seeking a long-lasting solution to these problems, with minimal disruption for the numerous residents.

The solution:

Staircases and balconies were prepared, primed and sprayed with Prokol Pure Polyurea, resulting in a anti-slip surface that is chemical-resistant and easy to maintain. This fast-curing coating was ideally suited to the project – residents could use their main thoroughfares almost immediately.

By situating our spray operatives in cradles on the building exteriors, we were able to both prime and coat these substantial elevations in the client’s colour choice to provide the ultimate in weatherproofing and durability. This prevented further water ingress and, with a long warranty supplied on the work, removed the need for scheduled decorative
maintenance cycles.

Brampton Pool, London

The challenge:

This tired-looking public paddling pool in London was in dire need of renovation and was severely weather-damaged. The surface was suffering major cracks and the surface was very dilapidated, meaning that the facility was not in use for the general public. 

The solution:

We removed the existing pool liner by means of scarification, then prepared the exposed substrate with diamond grinders. After this, epoxy primer and screed were applied, followed by spray-applied Prokol pure polyurea anti-slip coating. Finally, a colour-specified aliphatic topcoat was applied, rendering the pool aesthetically pleasing and fit for use for many years to come.
